The secret to upgrade your AI skills in a single afternoon

( 👉Learn from someone who's already figured it out.👈 That's it. That's the secret.)

I’ve had a course live for a few months now.

Some of you may have seen mentions in other emails. But I haven’t really talked about it in this newsletter. The truth is, I’ve been hesitant.

This newsletter only goes out twice a month. It’s where I share frameworks, use cases, lessons learned — and I’ve always wanted it to be packed full of value.

Something in your inbox you want to open. A signal, not more noise.

So I’ve steered clear of anything that felt promotional.

But after dozens of conversations with business leaders, I'm sure of one thing: We’re not struggling with awareness of AI anymore. We’re struggling with what to actually do with it.

  • “We’ve played around with ChatGPT, but we’re not getting consistent value.”
  • “I’m not sure how to roll this out across my team in a way that actually sticks.”
  • “I feel like I’m constantly behind — and I’m the one who’s supposed to be leading.”

That’s the gap this course was built to close.

Research continues to show that a leading challenge holding companies back is a lack of AI training.

So I'm dedicating gc #17 to Generative AI in the Workplace for two reasons:

  1. To tell you it exists.
  2. To explain the what, when, and why of structured AI training.

Whether or not you buy this course, this article will help you make smarter investments in AI education.

Why I built a course in the first place

The internet has no shortage of AI bros slinging ChatGPT tutorials mind-blowing hacks 'cause you're using AI completely and totally wrong 🤯💥🚀🔥 (along with real experts offering very legitimate, serious AI workshops).

But most AI trainings I've seen fall into at least one of four traps:

1. They’re tool-heavy, skill-light.

Some courses go a 'mile wide and inch deep,' offering use cases and showcasing product demos, but they fail to teach hands-on skills for real-world use. This is great for awareness, but can fall short of driving real adoption: It's one thing to know the specs of a car, another to learn how to drive it.

2. They’re hyper-specific.

Courses built just for marketers, designers, or sales teams might work for individuals — but they can create challenges for companies:

You need different courses for every role. Then each one varies in scope, depth, and quality. And none of them give your team a shared language for using AI together.

That makes adoption harder, alignment messier, and scaling nearly impossible.

3. They lack real instructional design.

Between a journalism degree and a content marketing-heavy career, I've spent the past 20 years telling stories — but I'm also married to a teacher, and know first-hand that creating content and teaching are not the same thing.

It seems obvious, but there are proven frameworks and strategies that ensure students succeed.

4. They overpromise.

“10x your output overnight!” As if change management were that easy.

If you’ve ever led a team, or implemented new software, you know the reality: New tools don’t drive change. People do. And people — understandably — need time, clarity, and support to adopt new habits.

Even when something is useful, even when it saves time, even when it makes sense… behavior change is hard.

So I built the course I couldn’t find — the one I wanted for my own clients:

✅ Prioritizes skills over software
✅ Ready for company-wide rollout
✅ Built on proven strategies for skill development and behavior change

✅ Realistic, attainable, valuable

In short, a practical, step-by-step workshop designed to help professionals use AI confidently and consistently — across the work they already do.

Let’s talk about the real challenge:

The hardest part about AI right now isn’t learning the tools — it’s building the habits.

Most companies are still stuck in dabble mode.

The missing piece is structured training.

Something that doesn’t just explain AI, but actually helps people:

  • Find use cases in their day-to-day tasks
  • Prompt effectively
  • Protect company data
  • Build AI into how they actually work

For five years running, the State of Marketing AI Report from SmarterX has found that a lack of education and training is the top barrier to AI adoption.

And McKinsey's 2025 survey found that nearly half of employees *want* more formal training and believe it is the best way to boost AI adoption.

Who it’s for (and who it’s not)

This course is for you if:

  • You’ve tried AI but aren’t getting consistent value
  • You want a faster path to using it well
  • You’re a team leader or business owner looking for a trusted training solution
  • You want a system — not just a list of tools — for applying AI across your work

This course is not for you if:

  • You’re already building custom GPTs or automating full workflows
  • You’re heavily focused on visual or audio tools (Midjourney, Sora, Suno, etc.)
  • You’re hoping for a buffet of tools rather than a deep dive on practical skills

This course is for business professionals, with a focus is on transferrable skills — things you can use across platforms, now and in the future.

Even if you never buy this course…

Here’s what I’d recommend you look for in any AI training:

  • Is it designed by educators, not just enthusiasts?
  • Does it help learners identify specific, high-value use cases relevant to their job?
  • Does it account for behavior change, not just knowledge transfer?
  • Does it prioritize understanding over novelty?
  • Does it make AI a team advantage, not just an individual skill?

Because that’s what will separate the companies who dabble from the ones who scale.

Real people. Real results.

Here’s what past learners have said about our approach:

“Really appreciated the structure, detail and template you provided.”

“Your approach really works.”

“This was extremely helpful and eye-opening.”

And here’s what companies have accomplished using the same methodology:

💸 One AI pilot saved a client $200,000

⏱ Another used a custom GPT to cut a recurring task time in half

...Why not just Google stuff and figure it out?

You could. There’s no shortage of tips, threads, tools, or tutorials.

But stitching those together takes time — and that time costs you. This course is your shortcut.

It’s curated, structured, and designed to help you learn faster.

If you want to adopt AI efficiently, and skip the trial and error, this is your next step.
